ABOUT: Blumenthal Performing Arts manages six theaters in the center city, hosting and producing more than 1,000 events annually, including performances by 16 resident companies. Blumenthal Performing Arts presents the largest Broadway season in the Carolinas, hosting more than 18 weeks of Broadway shows annually, along with a large array of special attractions and festivals, from concerts to comedy to dance and much more.

More than 150,000 students participate annually in student-focused programs, ranging from internships to specially priced show tickets to The Blumey Awards, which celebrates excellence in high school musical theater in our region. The Blumenthal helps shape each Broadway season in New York through investments in new musicals and has won 10 Tony Awards.

COMMUNITY PROGRAMS

Arts for All
Arts for All programs are our way of ensuring that everyone has access to the arts, no matter their background or income.

  • Ticket Scholarships

    • Blumenthal Performing Arts provides families with limited financial resources tickets to select touring Broadway shows included in Blumenthal’s PNC Broadway Lights Series. The Education Department partners with local organizations, such as Communities in Schools, Thompson Family Services, ourBRIDGE for Kids, and others, to identify and invite families and children to attend a performance. Several weeks prior to each performance, these organizations are given a show packet and study guide to share with their participating families. The cost of these programs are covered by Blumenthal Performing Arts and donor partners because of the belief that sharing arts experiences with all members of our region is vital to creating a strong and vibrant community.

  • Big Brothers Big Sisters Ticket Scholarship

    • The Education Department provides a ticket scholarship account program for Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of Greater Charlotte. This account allows BBBS to acquire tickets to any performance of any Blumenthal-presented show.

  • Freedom Schools Partnership

    • Donations to the Arts for All program allows for over 400 Freedom Schools to attend various special performances at the Blumenthal.

Open Mic
This free event is open to performers and spectators of all ages. Instrumentalists, singers, dancers, storytellers, poets, jugglers, magicians, and others are all welcome. Beginning performers, as well as veterans, are encouraged to participate.

Get to Know the Show
Get to Know the Show programs are free events provided by Blumenthal Performing Arts for the general public. These programs are designed to provide information regarding upcoming Blumenthal shows in an entertaining, upbeat, and enjoyable manner.

EDUCATION PROGRAMS

The Junior Theater Celebration Charlotte
Junior Theater Celebration Charlotte brings together theater enthusiasts from all avenues – ranging from Charlotte area students, teachers, and volunteers to professionals who work on Broadway – to celebrate and encourage excellence in student musical theatre productions. The program is free to participating area schools.

Junior Ambassadors
During a school year, Junior Ambassadors serve as volunteer theater ushers in Blumenthal theaters and attend a series of seminars, through which they learn about different career opportunities in the performing arts. Students also enhance their interpersonal skills, build self-confidence, and develop new networks of peers and professionals through the program.
