Grooming Greatness Foundation

ABOUT:

Mission
The Grooming Greatness Foundation is committed to educating, enriching & exposing all in the community to the greatness that they have within. Through their signature programs they focus on building stronger family ties and in turn contributing to stronger communities. Their 360 degree approach to grooming includes addressing personal development in areas such as mindset, image & etiquette, healthy habits and mental health utilizing exposure to the arts. A desire that their program participants understand that "the sky is the limit, full of endless possibilities, if only we would explore them.” Why? There is a strong need to provide youth, particularly in economically disadvantaged situations, with alternative work related opportunities, personal development and exposure opportunities that can expand their mindset & belief systems. Charlotte Schools reported less than half of high school graduates are college bound and the majority of this half are minorities from underserved communities.

The foundation knows that there are a variety of reasons why they choose not to go to college but, primarily it's due to lack of funds or lack of desire. They have found that many of these youth may not be academically inclined but are very talented in some form of the arts. The foundation has found a way to creatively expose them to the arts, teach them the importance of grooming within this exposure and introduce entrepreneurial concepts within the exposure. This offers the youth another alternative to street life and provides them possibilities for their future success.

Impact

Their goal is that youth walk away with a greater appreciation of the arts, a potential desire to continue an interest in some aspect of the arts, a peaked interest in entrepreneurship, an enhanced self-esteem and confidence and a new perspective on other possibilities if college seems not to be an option in their future. It will also provide them with productive activities to keep them from pursuing activities that could be detrimental to their future.

Monique Douglas (Founder) and her husband Kevin operate their nonprofit out of Studio 229 on Brevard located in a historic block of Charlotte, that was committed back in the 1900’s to the enrichment of our community. They are proud to build upon that work today. The Grooming Greatness Foundation services youth 9-16 years olds.
