ABOUT: MufukaWorks Dance Company was developed by Elsie Mufuka in 2010 with the inspiration of providing dance education and performances to the community, inspired by Mufukas Zimbabwean lineage and professional experience. Her international travels had her able to afford opening her to start up her company and offer a variety of dance education and performances programs within a diverse community. Her vision is to use the “Afro Russe (a fusion of Zimbabwean African, Ballet, and Contemporary) style of dance as a vehicle to convey human life stories. This style was developed by Elsie Mufuka to give the dancers and audience an all-around cultural and dance experience and also a complete understanding of mind, body, and soul with all dance cultures.”
In Charlotte, NC, she is able to provide dance education at Albemarle Road Recreation Center and has brought performances to many more areas of Charlotte and North Carolina. She was the former Chair of the Board for Charlotte Dance Festival. She is also active in the cities of Beaufort and Bluffton in South Carolina. One community accesibile program in Charlotte is the free Zimbabwean African Dance classes with Charlotte Ballet.
